Examples of "Intelligent" Serial Number Prefixes

These examples show serial numbers for job and miscellaneous receipt transactions that were created using prefix definitions.

Note:  Separate sections of data with a hyphen (-), especially when reference number, line-suffix, and release are used. This makes the serial number more readable and ensures that you get the expected results. Hyphens are defined via constants on the Prefix Definition form.

Example 1

Transaction description:

Job 1

Suffix 0000

qty = 5

Site OH

Expand Serial on

Prefix definition placeholders:

SN-&S-&T-&N-&L-

where SN and the hyphens are defined via constants.

Generated serial numbers:

SN-OH-J-1-0000-0000000000000000001

SN-OH-J-1-0000-0000000000000000002

SN-OH-J-1-0000-0000000000000000003

In this example there are two hyphens (--) next to each other because inventory transactions do not have a line-suffix value.
