About Multi-Site Transfer Order Receiving

A Transfer Order Receive transaction moves the quantity from the Transit Location to the Stock Location of the receiving warehouse or site. Multiple receipts may be made against a transfer order line item. Returns or mis-receipts can be backed out by entering a negative receipt quantity.

The From Site controls shipping and must perform this process. The To Site controls receiving. The FOB Site, also designated on the transfer order header, determines the timing of accounting transactions. If the FOB Site is the same as the From Site, then the goods change ownership at the time of shipping. If the FOB Site is the same as the To Site, then the goods change ownership at the time of receiving.

If the FOB site is the From Site, then material is moved during shipment to a transit location belonging to the To Site. At receipt, Landed Costs are capitalized only for those items using Actual costing methods.

If the FOB site is the To Site, the material is moved during shipment to a transit location belonging to the From Site. At receipt, Landed Costs are capitalized for all items. A receipt record is created during the shipping.

You are able to update the Landed Costs for the item being received if the FOB field for the transfer order indicates the To Site. The values are defaulted from the transfer order line item, but can be overwritten.
