Infinite
This field applies to the Scheduler only.
Select the field to specify that this resource group has infinite capacity. Any resource allocated from an Infinite resource group is able to work on an unlimited number of operations while the resource is on a working shift. If an operation requires a resource group that is defined as infinite, the scheduling of that operation will be constrained only by times not related to resource availability, such as the operation's Move and Finish hours.
If a resource only appears in infinite resource groups, no jobs will appear in the dispatch list for that resource.
If this field is cleared, the resource group's capacity is finite based on the number of member resources it contains.
You can also specify a resource as infinite by selecting the Infinite Scheduling field on the Resources form. This ability allows great flexibility but can also become confusing. The system determines how to treat each resource's capacity as shown below:
Infinite Scheduling Resource? | Member of Infinite Resource Group? | Member of Non-Infinite Resource Group? | Resulting Capacity |
---|---|---|---|
Yes | Yes or No | Yes or No | Infinite |
No | Yes | Yes | Non-Infinite |
No | Yes | No | Infinite |
No | No | Yes | Non-Infinite |
To avoid confusion about which of your resources are infinite, you should specify infinite resource capacity either at the resource group level or at the resource level, according to these considerations:
Use this method... | When |
---|---|
Infinite resource group | Your resources generally are members of only one resource group and you analyze scheduling output at the resource group level. |
Infinite Scheduling resource | Your resources are members of multiple resource groups (where there are both infinite and finite resources in the same groups) and you analyze scheduling output at the resource level. |
